This was the first album issued on the Springthyme label - recorded during the Kinross Traditional Music Festival on the weekend of 7th to 9th September 1973. The festival was one of the early traditional music festivals organised by the TMSA - the Traditional Music and Song Association of Scotland. The festival venue had moved to Kinross in 1971, five years after the founding event held in Blairgowrie in 1966.

The weekend event brought together many of the most important and influentual musicians and singers of the day - and folk enthusiasts from far and wide. The album includes several tracks from Tom Anderson and Aly Bain, ten of Shetland's famous 'Forty Fiddlers', the Gaelic singer Flora MacNeil, the debut recording of the North-east traditional singer Stanley Robertson, the bothy ballad singer Charlie Murray from Forfar and the West Highland left-handed fiddler Aonghas Grant.
